Week #1 Update

First, I have to admit that the title of my blog is a little preemptive. The real title, as it stands now, should be "Midwesterner with a burn," or, "The lobster living in the desert." Anyway...I have been in Arizona for a week. Things I have learned are: (1) you can get sunburned in 20 minutes in the Arizona heat (I have done it twice now), (2) instead of chipmunks jumping out in front of your bike, its lizards, (3) when you live in a retirement community, you get really strange looks on a triathlon bike wearing tight bike shorts and cycling jerseys, and (4) waking up in the morning to sunshine and 75 degrees is something I can get used to (unfortunately something that will be short lived, as it will be 110 in a month or so). After spending a few days in Green Valley (where I will be living for the next 2.5 months) I was able to drive up to Phoenix to visit my cousin and show my co-pilot sister from the MN-AZ drive around for the weekend. We were able to take in a Twins/Dbacks game, which of course was lost by the Twins. Now that I am back in Green Valley, my life has turned into bike rides up Madera Canyon (see above) and runs out into the desert, and I am perfectly fine with that. I have to give a big shout out to my teammate Hunter for finishing his first Ironman in Texas a couple days ago! Huge accomplishment and one he will never forget. Ok-time to sign off, only 2 months until the bar exam and 137 days until Kona, I am nowhere near prepared for either!
